In my role of Literacy Coordinator I delivered 2 in-service sessions based on a course I had attended, "Nourishing the Imagination".

Each session, one on poetry and the other on writing, gave staff practical ideas that could be used in the classroom and literacy lessons.

The training covered Primary 1 to Primary 7 and staff were all enthusiastic to use new techiniques and ideas in their classrooms.

Just Free

This poem was written by a year 6 child after a week of poetry in our literacy lessons.
The poetry lessons were inspired from the poetry training I had received at an EDA training week in Chester.

Just Free

Deserted area

Blue sky

Clouds

Dry… Hot… sunny

Rocky land

Gentle wind blowing

Salt water, small boat travelling

Gentle waves crashing for miles

The sound of an eagle’s cry

A boy sliding down hills

Then climbing back up

That boy

He looks happy

Also safe

He is walking home

Who is he?

Walking home on a dirt track

That boy, who is that boy?

That boy is me !

(A poem written by a boy in P7 based on the training given on Poetry)
